Many people say that Social networking and social
bookmarking are phenomenons that no self-respecting Web
site owner can afford to ignore in today's socially networked
world.
As the explosion of socially networked media
rolls on, a number of very potent marketing opportunities have
presented themselves to savvy Web site operators for the
continuing promotion of their Web sites.
How Do The Social Networks
Work?
Social networks, social media, and other
socially-networked sites all operate on essentially the same
principles. Account members (usually free to join) post
articles, news and other content (including audio and video in
some cases), on their account pages.
The community itself decides on the relevance
worth or popularity of the content submitted, usually by some
type of "voting" for the content of other members.
This system of "quality floats to the top" is
supplemented by other methods, usually owned and operated by
these social site owners, which is aimed at making sure that
relevant and genuine content is well rewarded.
This is where your advertising comes in. There
are many subtle, but highly effective methods to drive traffic
to your sites, if you know what you are doing. The best names
to follow, in my experience, are Jack Humphrey (his free
Authority
Black Book has set the standard --see a note about
this in the right-hand column of this page), Howie Swartz
and Colin McDougall. In fact, on
ConstantConversations.com--Colin McDougall's site--the
headline is stunning:
"Wow! Google
Page 1 in 6 minutes: How I got a natural search
listing, for a competitive keyword on Page 1 of Google . .
. in only 6 minutes!"
There are many social marketing sites out there and here is
a list of just a few of the most popular ones ...

Plain English?

There are three steps to get started in social
bookmarking:
1. First go to Delicious.com (or to the social site you'd
like to join) to sign up and add the buttons to your browser.
But make sure you research the social sites that can actually
do something for you, otherwise you'll just be cluttering up
your life with a lot of useless chatter. The best way to do
this is to research sites that are in your field, and look such
sites over before signing up.
Ideally, you want to pick those social sites that feature
similar type of content to the type you have in mind
submitting. also, make sure such sites also have strong active
communities engaging with the content submitted.
2. Second, start bookmarking sites with tags.
3. And third, be social. Notice how useful and fun other
people's bookmarks can be.
